The Lemosho Route is considered the most beautiful route on Mount Kilimanjaro. Starting from the western slopes, it passes through lush rainforest, Shira Plateau, alpine desert, and icy summit zones.
This route is highly recommended for climbers seeking a slower pace, better acclimatization, and higher success rate to reach Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

Day 0: Arrival – Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi
Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be met by Okapi Expedition driver and transferred to your hotel in Moshi.
Rest, recover from your flight, and attend a full briefing before your climb begins.

Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp
Distance: 8 km
Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Rainforest
Start your trek through dense rainforest filled with wildlife, giant trees, and birds. The trail is peaceful and scenic as you ascend gradually.
Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp for dinner and overnight stay in the forest.
Day 2: Mti Mkubwa to Shira 1 Camp
Distance: 7 km
Time: 5–6 hours
Habitat: Moorland
Leave rainforest behind and enter moorland zone with wide views of Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in the distance.
Day 3: Shira 1 to Shira 2 Camp
Distance: 10 km
Time: 4–5 hours
A relaxed acclimatization day crossing Shira Plateau with beautiful views of glaciers and volcanic landscapes.
Day 4: Shira 2 to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp
Distance: 10 km
Time: 6–7 hours
A key acclimatization day climbing to Lava Tower (4,600m) before descending to Barranco Camp. This helps your body adapt to altitude.
Day 5: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Distance: 5 km
Time: 4–5 hours
Climb the famous Barranco Wall — a thrilling but non-technical scramble with stunning views of the valley below.
Day 6: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
Distance: 4 km
Time: 4–5 hours
Steep ascent to Barafu Camp, the final base before summit night. Rest early and prepare mentally for Uhuru Peak.
Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka Camp
Distance: 17 km
Time: 10–14 hours
Midnight summit push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m). Witness sunrise from Africa’s highest point. Celebrate then descend to Mweka Camp.
Day 8: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate
Descend through rainforest to Mweka Gate where you receive your summit certificate. Transfer back to Moshi for celebration.
Day 9: Departure
Transfer from Moshi to Kilimanjaro International Airport. End of your unforgettable adventure with Okapi Expedition.
